Bachmann Europe PLC announced today (21 February 2006) that it´s first Gauge 1 ready to run Brassworks locomotive has been released to dealers.
The locomotive is a former LNER / BR J94 Class 0-6-0 Saddle Tank often known as the 'Austerity, having originally been built during World War 2 for the War Department. After the war the LNER purchased 75 of them, which passed to British Railways in 1948. The last of the Class was withdrawn by British Railways in October 1967. Many were also built by Hunslet for industrial use after the war for companies such as the National Coal Board.
This is the largest scale locomotive to have been produced in the Brassworks range at 1/32nd scale. The locomotive operates on 45mm track on what is recognised as being the largest of the commercial model railway scales.
The J94 is available with high or normal bunkers and retails in brass finish at £499.50. It can also be purchased ready painted examples in black for £560. The painted versions do not carry numbers or crests, allowing the purchaser to finish the locomotive accordingly.
Graham Hubbard, Managing Director of Bachmann Europe PLC said "Gauge 1 is increasing in popularity for both indoor and outdoor use. We were asked to consider producing a Brassworks locomotive larger than our O gauge models and we have done so to test the water. Interest has been high and we will consider further Gauge 1 models if the market justifies it".
