Farish BDA bogie bolster makes first appearance

Bachmann Europe Plc has received the first EP (Engineering Prototype) samples of the BDA bogie bolster wagon.
British Railways built a large number of bogie bolster wagons between 1949 and 1962. The 52ft long version was originally known as a Bogie Bolster D.
Following the move to air braked trains after 1964, 1250 of these were rebuilt to become BDA bogie bolster wagons under the TOP’s system, the first vehicle being converted at Swindon in 1975.
BDA’s were used for the conveyance of mainly metal products such as steel rods but with the decline of that traffic those remaining are used in departmental service mainly for carrying rail to and from work sites. 388 BDA wagons remained in service on the national network in 2008.
Three versions will be released by Graham Farish as follows;
Loadhaul livery (377-600), with heavy duty bolsters and stanchions
BR Railfreight livery (377-601) with standard bolsters and stanchions plus bogies fitted with handbrake wheel
EWS livery (377-602) with heavy duty bolsters and stanchions
The model is designed so that the user can fit the stanchions accessory detail to suit different loads.
All the wagons are fitted with NEM coupling pockets. The accessory pack includes a load comprising two steel girders and complete spare set of stanchions.
