Mehano have released their HO model of the SNCB (Belgian National Railways) Class 51 locomotive. The range is distributed in the UK by Bachmann Europe Plc.

The SNCB Class 51 locomotives were built between 1961 and 1963 by the Belgian company Cockerill Mechanical Industries that was founded by Englishman William Cockerill from Lancashire. Today the company still manufactures 350 to 750 HP diesel shunting locomotives. These Co Co diesel-electric locomotives had a maximum speed of 120 km/ph and weighed 117 tonnes. Ninety three of these locomotives were built with a power output of 1450 Kw.

These locomotives were originally used to replace steam motive power and the class saw use both on freight and passenger workings. One of their prestige duties was hauling TEE (Trans European Express) services between Brussels and Amsterdam. Large numbers of the class were withdrawn from 2000 onwards with their last scheduled services taking place in 2003. During their final years one of the duties of the class was to haul ore trains in the Antwerp area.

Mehano are to release the locomotive in seven number and livery combinations. It will be available in DC, with DCC Digital Sound, AC and AC Digital Sound formats. Full details of models currently available are listed below.
