Designed by William Stroudley and constructed during the 1870's, these tiny locos gained a reputation in inverse proportion to their size! Aimed at light passenger and shunting duties the class quickly found themselves dispersed across the LBSCR and travelled far and wide after the grouping and became the mainstay of the Colonel Stephens railways.

Although the entire class had been withdrawn from BR service by 1966 many found homes on Britain's preserved lines and one even ended up in Canada!

Hornby's model faithfully captures the character of these little locos whose knicknames included "Terriers", "Rooters" and "Pups".
