Bekonscot Model Village and Railway
Bekonscot Model Village and Railway is the world's oldest model village. There are six little villages in a 1.5 acre miniature landscape of farms and fields, castles and churches, woods, lakes and rolling hills. Each village is linked by one of Britain's largest public outdoor model garden railways.
The outdoor model railway is built to Gauge 1 standards (10mm to the foot) and has over 400 metres of realistically-signalled main line and branch line. The railway was built as an original feature of the private model village in 1929, under the direction of model railway company Bassett-Lowke. The current rolling stock is almost exclusively constructed by Bekonscot's own team of modellers.
The six model villages include a variety of fully working scenes, such as a coalmine, fairground, house on fire, windmills and tramway.
As well as the models, Bekonscot also features extensive gardens, a passenger-carrying narrow gauge railway and children's playgound.
Bekonscot is open every day throughouth spring and summer. See the website for more details and admission prices.
