CTC
Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) remotely controls switches and signals by sending instructions to the field (trackside) from a panel of miniature levers It is a method of Railway Operation that does away with most written operating orders. Timetable is used as a guide for departures of passenger trains. Freight trains operate as extras by controlling absolute signals at switches, crossovers, passing sidings and junctions from a central location. CTC may be used to control short or very long distances of single or multiple tracks. The Poor man’s version of CTC, as installed on the prototype and which can also be utilized on a model layout, makes use of hand operated track switches (turnouts) instead of dual control or power operated switches.
